New Jersey, Illinois Ranked Worst States for Property Taxes

Once again, New Jersey and Illinois ranked as the two worst states in the country when it comes to property taxes, according to a new survey from personal finance website WalletHub. In order to identify the states with the highest and lowest property taxes, WalletHub’s analysts compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia using U.S. Census Bureau data to determine real-estate property tax rates. While property taxes vary from county to county across the state, WalletHub divided the “median real-estate tax payment” by the “median home price” in each state to determine the property tax rate.

Benchmark Senior Living will add their 34 senior housing communities to Health Care REIT's portfolio, combining to form an $890 million partnership between the two companies. Health Care REIT will have 95% partnership interest to Benchmark's 5%. According to, the partnership will continue to enhance Health Care REIT's growth potential as Benchmark has been able to produce exceptional NOI growth despite a rough economic client.

Omni Bids $67M for Florida Resort

Irving, Texas-based Omni Hotels & Resorts has a $67.1 million bid out to acquire the luxury Amelia Island Plantation resort located 29 miles north of Jacksonville, Florida. The resort is currently in Chapter 11 bankruptcy. According to the Dallas Business Journal, Omni's bid is currently the highest submitted and completion of the sale depends on Omni gaining the approval of a Florida bankruptcy court expected later on this week.
